# Introduction to Number system

This is very interesting question, β*What is the number?β* The *number system* has its own history. If we eliminate numbers from world, it becomes dead in all respects. The cultural heritage, education, business, astrology, industries etc become dead.

You cannot imagine yourself without numbers. When we start journey of life in the womb of mother, which is totally **number** based system. The solar system, rotation of planets around own axis, and around star, all are based on numbers.

So, if there is no number, no World, no culture, and no life. All of us know that spiritual leader; Swami Vivekanand had delivered speech on Hinduism and Vedanta on symbol zero in the religious conference organized by World’s Parliament of Religion at Chicago in U.S. So, number is a symbol and rules used to represent quantity for mathematical manipulation.

Every civilization has its own script. Hindu-Arabic mathematicians developed decimal number in 8th to 11th centuries AD. Some mathematicians have proved that decimal system of number was developed by Aryabhatta (Astrologer, philosopher, and Mathematician of India). The first use of zero as a place holder in positional base was credited to Muhammad ibn Musa al-khwarizmi of Bagadad (Iraq).
