Nuclear reactions

Nuclear reactions

Possible by using projectiles like \alpha, p, n, _1H^2 (Deutron) etc.

Ex.

_7N^{14} + _2He^4 \to ^{17}_8 O + _1H^1 \; \; [\alpha, p \text{type}] \\ _{13}Al^{27} + _0n^1 \to _{12} Mg^{27} + _1H^1 \; \; [n, p \text{type}] \\ _7 N^{14} + _1H^2 \to _7N ^{16} + _1e^0

  • Cyclotron [discovered by E.O. lawrance] increase kinetic energy of \alpha-projectile to increase their speed and projectile power.
  • Synchrotron does some work for \beta-projectile.
