Atomic model

An atom is the defined as the smallest particle of any element that still retains the characteristics of that element. However, atoms consists of even smaller particles. Atom consists of central, dense nucleus that is surrounded by one or more lightweight negatively charged particle called electrons.

Nucleus is made up of positively charged particle called protons and neutrons which is neutral. The force of attraction between the electron and protons heds atom together.
